Special Education

  • In accordance with law, all appropriate participants will be invited to attend TEAM meetings and will be notified of those meetings dates within the required timelines.
  • All areas of a student's suspected need wil be assessed, and, if appropriate, will be addressed in the student's IEP (i.e. emotional issues and counseling).
  • Included in the TEAM's discussion, and reflected in the IEP, will be the student's ability to comply with the District's discipline code and the student's ability to participate in state and district-wide assessment programs using routine conditons.
  • The TEAM will adhere to all Chapter 766 timelines for annual reviews, evaluations, provision of IEP, and/or identification of other instructional programs.
  • Special education progress reports will be completed on the same cycle as report cards.
  • The IEP will be developed at the TEAM meeting, and the TEAM will immediately implement accepted portions of the IEP. If it is determined that additional resources may be necessary, the TEAM will write a partial IEP to address all other elements. Then, the TEAM will immediately reschedule the meeting to discuss additional resources with a District representative who has the authority to commit the resources. If the TEAM cannot arrive at a consensus regaarding an IEP, the TEAM chairperson will develop an IEP and provide it to the parent for consideration and review.
  • The outcome of an evaluation will be documented for parents using the Notice of Proposed School District Action.
  • Prior to referral to Special Education, curriculum accommodation plans will be developed for at risk students. Resources for teachers will include the District Accommodation Plan and the school's child study team.
  • Student suspensions will be logged. Any instance of ten days of suspension in one school year will be reviewed and responded to in accordance with the law.
  • The principal will support/assist with the training of professional and paraprofessional personnel as is determined by the District.

Civil Rights Methods of Administration

  • The school will make every attempt to provide information in other languages other than English.
  • Staff training regarding Nondiscrimination and Civil Rights responsibilities will occur annually.
  • The principal will post Notice of Nondisrimination (Policy 2.20) in the school's main office.
