Skates
are not valuable for selling. Sometimes
they are used for bait inside traps or used as fertilizer.
The
Little Skate is sometimes known as the “hedgehog skate”.
They have a row of spines that begin behind their eyes and go to the edge
of their tail.
Skates are close relatives to sharks and rays.
In 1981 there was information found on how skates produce their young.
The female skates can lay eggs in a 3-4 month process and she will lay a
pair of eggs every 3-5 days. Inside
the egg is a yolk similar to a chicken. It
takes around 12 weeks before it is ready to hatch.
