School Council
The Federal Furnace School Council is composed of nine members: four parents,
elected by the parents of the school; three teachers, elected by the teachers
of the school, one community representative who volunteers and is accepted
by the council, and the principal. The School Council assists the principal
in identifying the educational needs of the students and other needs of the
school, reviewing the school’s annual budget, adopting educational goals
for the school, and formulating the school’s annual school improvement
plan.
Our goals are derived from federal and state mandates, the goals of the school
system, and perceived needs of the school. Current goals of the school council
are:
To achieve adequate yearly progress in English Language Arts for the aggregate
of students in grades 3, 4, and 5, and for each subgroup, as measured by the
results of the Spring 2007 MCAS tests
To achieve adequate yearly progress in Mathematics for the aggregate of students
in grades 3, 4, and 5, and for each subgroup, as measured by the results of
the Spring 2007 MCAS tests
To make our school, physically and emotionally, a safe and healthy place
for students and staff
To provide parents with opportunities to be more involved with their children’s
education
School council meetings are open to the general public. We encourage parent
input in our bi-annual survey.
Copies of the school improvement plan are available in the main office of
our school.
