WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RIDE THE BUS WITHOUT PAYING A BUS FEE IN PLYMOUTH?

All students in grades K-6 who reside two miles or more from their assigned school are eligible for free transportation.
WHAT IF YOU DO NOT QUALIFY TO RIDE WITHOUT PAYING A BUS FEE?
All Plymouth students grades K-6 that reside less than two miles from their designated school and all students grades 7-12, regardless of the distance, are required to pay for transportation.
WHERE WILL MY CHILD BE PICKED UP OR DROPPED OFF?
Bus Routes will be published in the local papers approximately two weeks prior to the start of school. The bus routes will be similar to the current ones and located within one mile of the student's residence. Students may only ride their assigned bus to and from their assigned stop. The bus stops will be approved by the School Department and maintained by the Bus Contractor.
HOW MUCH WILL THE BUS COST?
The fee for this school year is: $125 for the first student, $100 for the second student and $75 for the third student. The maximum fee for a family is $300 per year. The "Advance Payment Discount" rate applies to all payments received prior to the second Friday in June. NO CASH will be accepted. Make money order, bank or personal check payable to "Town of Plymouth – Bus Fee". The amount of the fee will be determined annually. All fees are payable in advance and are non-refundable. WHEN WILL I BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE BUS FEE?
Payment is due in full with the Application. Fee-based seats are on a space available basis only. We cannot re-route or add busses once the routes have been established. The sooner you apply, the sooner you are assured of your student(s) being accommodated in the route plans.
WHERE DO I SEND MY PAYMENT AND FORMS?
Application Form and payment should be mailed to the school the student will be attending during the school year. You must file one application for each student. You only need to issue one check per school.
WILL BUS PASSES BE REQUIRED?
Yes. Bus Passes will be issued to all students eligible to ride at their school during the first week of school. Passes will NOT BE REQUIRED to ride the bus during the first few days of school. Students will not be permitted to ride the bus without a Bus Pass once the passes have been distributed. The replacement fee for a lost Bus Pass will be $5 per pass.
WHAT IF I NEED THE BUS ONLY TWO OR THREE DAYS PER WEEK?
The cost for all students is the same. A limited number of "one-way" seats for either AM or PM use may be available after all regular students have been routed.
WHO CAN BE SUSPENDED FROM RIDING THE BUS?
Anyone who violates the School Bus Conduct Policy may be suspended. There is no refund if a student has paid a bus fee.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HOME IS LESS THAN TWO MILES FROM THE DESIGNATED SCHOOL?
There is a list available at every school documenting the distance between each student's residence and his/her assigned school.
HOW IS THE MILEAGE DETERMINATION MADE?
In accordance with Department of Education policy, the distance is measured from the property line in front of the student's residence, along sidewalks or commonly traveled public ways ordinarily accessible to the public, to the student entrance in front of their designated school.
WHAT IF I DISAGREE WITH THE SCHOOL DEPARTMENT'S MILEAGE MEASUREMENT?
You may file a "Request for Confirmation of Distance" at the student's current school. The school will forward the request for a re-measurement of the mileage. You will be notified of the results of the re-measurement and a refund will be issued if appropriate. The School Department's re-measurement will be the final determination.
IS THERE ANY PROVISION FOR A WAIVER OF THE BUS FEE?
Yes, if you qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Meals program. If you qualified for the program in the current year, you will be assumed to still qualify until the next application date. Free and Reduced Meal Applications are distributed annually during the first week of school. You must qualify annually.
