The program "The High Energy Sky" describes the launch and upcoming mission of a new NASA satellite – GLAST (Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope). Scheduled for launch from Florida by the end of May, this satellite will make detailed maps of the most extreme environments of our universe – gamma ray bursts, black holes, solar flares, pulsars and dark matter. Physicists hope that some of GLAST’s observations will complement hoped-for discoveries of the soon-to-be-operating Large Hadron Collider (a large particle accelerator) in Europe. All of these topics will be discussed – in a low energy manner.
Come to the Blake Planetarium at the Plymouth Community Intermediate School where the skies are always clear!
